This past month, our kindergartners have been finishing their 100 days of school activities in Seesaw. They also created Valentine's Day cards for a family member that we were able to print of so that they could share them. During Random Act of Kindness Week, the students watched a video about sharing acts of kindness and then brainstormed ways that they could be kind to others.

As soon as we got back from Christmas Break, our students were ready to talk about what they had done. The students were able to complete a graphic organizer in Seesaw and then talk about all of the things they had done. Later, we opened up a feature so that the students could listen to each other's stories and comment on them. They loved being able to respond to their classmates just like their parents can.
The students in Ms. M's class were able to draw a picture and talk about what they thought their teacher was doing while she was stuck at home recovering. These were printed and made into a book for here to enjoy while she recovers at home.
After learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ms. Trierweiler's class completed an activity where they got to draw what they would do to make the world a better place and then explain their picture.
The students also practiced a bunch of other activities where continued to practice their drawing and recording skills. Keep an eye out for them in their journals.
Common Sense Education, where our digital citizenship curriculum comes comes from posted an article on how to downsize, not eliminate the use of technology during the holidays. You can find the article here.
The students have been learning all about the birth of Jesus throughout this Lenten season. This week in Seesaw, the students took pictures of a Nativity scene. They then found a quiet spot to record themselves telling their version of the night Jesus was born. I hope that you enjoy listening to them as much as they enjoyed recording them.
The students took a break this week to learn how to log into and use Freckle. Once the students have completed their pre-tests, Freckle has them work on Math, English/Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science at levels that are perfect for their individual level of learning. That way, they are always engaged and challenged, never facing material that is too difficult or easy for them. Students will have log-in information in their take home folders soon so that they can practice both at school and at home. Please do not help them work on these problems, they need to figure them out on their own so that the program adapts to their needs. The kindergarteners have begun their instruction on how to use Seesaw. They are learning that Seesaw is a learning journal where they will save their work over time. We started simple with learning how to locate the app in the doc of the iPads, open the app, how to log in using a QR code and then log out again. Every two weeks they will learn about a new feature. We have moved on to taking photos, recording their voice, and using drawing tools.
We also sent home information that will allow the parents to connect to their student's Seesaw journal. There will be about a post a week where students are documenting what they are learning. If there are e-learning days, announcements will be sent through Seesaw with the assignments to be completed that day. If you are having difficulty connecting, please feel free to contact me. We also learned about the parts of the iPad. See if they can remember where the home screen, home button, and the doc are. |
