Students in kindergarten through third grade have daily access to iPads in their classrooms on a 1:1 ratio. IPads are seamlessly integrated into the students' lessons. These students will be creating digital portfolios of their work using the application Seesaw. Students will use Seesaw to create, reflect, share, and collaborate. Students “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, and text. It’s simple to get student work in one place and share with parents, and nothing is shared without teacher approval.
Throughout the year, the students experience different coding applications. At school, the students can practice their coding skills through CodeSpark. This app allows the students, no matter their reading level, to learn the basic coding skills of sequencing, loops, and conditionals without the need for any additional materials besides their iPads.
Our favorite coding activities involve our Dash robots from Wonder Workshop. Students begin by learning the basics of Blockly, a block based coding app and will use the skills they gain to solve a variety of challenges.
